The trailhead for Lanham Lake is directly across from the red door of the Nordic Center. The trailhead kiosk is tucked into the woods a little ways back from the road. Walk just past the creek up the road to find it.
The trail up to the little lake is quite steep, and may be brushy, though nothing impassable. On the way up, you'll cross under some powerlines. Here, turn right and continue down the road until you get near the base of the powerline trail.
While steep, most of the trail is shaded, making its way through cool forest. After the powerlines, enter a stand of old-growth forest just before reaching the lake, which affords visitors views of the dramatic flank of Jim Hill Mountain, popular among climbers and scramblers.
