This park offers a unique experience right inside the City of Port Townsend. At one time this lagoon was connected with the Puget Sound, the water here rising and falling with the tides. Over the years, development and industry were not kind to this estuary: Sims Way blocked it off from the Sound, and extensive dumping shrunk this water body by half.
Luckily, starting in the 1980s, this area started to gain some protections, making it the public park and valuable habitat it is today. Now there are trails in the upland portion of the park where visitors can explore. These trails are wheelchair accessible. An added bonus for visitors is the variety of bird species you are likely to see.
