Hiking Jetty Island

Hop aboard the free, seasonal ferry to Jetty Island and explore the sandy beaches, active sea life, and bountiful birds. This island, made of sediment dredged from the Snohomish River, is a true gem.

It's a marvel of engineering. Beginning as a riprap jetty in the 1800s, the island originally provided a protected harbor and navigation channel for ships. The Port of Everett purchased it in 1929 and built it up with help from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This process required dredging material and creating a marsh. Now, wildlife take advantage of the marsh. Juvenile salmon flit in the water, and waterfowl and bald eagles decorate the surface water and trees. Birdwatching can be good, so bring binoculars.

The island is also used as an educational location in the summer. There are many educational walks and tours available.

Note that Jetty Landing park and Jetty Island visitors will pay a $3 daily seasonal parking fee, 7 days a week, between May 1 and September 30 each year.
