Hiking Issaquah - Preston Trail

The Issaquah-Preston trail is a suburban connector trail running roughly along the historic Seattle Lake Shore & Eastern Railway grade from Issaquah east to Preston.

At its western terminus the Issaquah - Preston Trail connects with the popular East Lake Sammamish Trail and the Preston - Snoqualmie Trail and the Rainier Trail at its eastern end. Access points to the southern end of Grand Ridge Park are also available less than a mile west of High Point Way.

The trail surface starts paved on the west end and transitions to gravel or dirt east of Sunset Way then reverts back to a wide paved shoulder along SE High Point Way as you come into Preston. An easy access point is at a gravel lot north of the High Point Way exit off I-90 - directions below.

Starting on the western end, the paved trail follows I-90 through Issaquah up to and under (via a tunnel) Highlands Drive NE and connects with the Rainier Trail here. Continuing east, the trail follows the wooded railroad grade along the base of Grand Ridge.

Views of the East Fork of Issaquah Creek start shortly after and continue until running into the main gravel lot at SE High Point Way. Cross SE High Point Way and continue along the trail east closely following I-90.

The trail changes over to a wide paved shoulder along SE High Point Way about a mile from the town of Preston. There is quite a bit of traffic noise from I-90 especially on the eastern end. Remember that standard King County trails rules apply here. You'll share the trail with bicycles and horses allowed, pets must be leashed, the trail opens a half hour before sunrise, closes a half hour after sunset.
