Hiking Indian Heaven

Indian Heaven trail provides access to one of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest's most popular areas. The Indian Heaven Wilderness is a high, forested plateau dotted with lakes and berry-filled meadows. Its a lovely location for a day hike or a backpacking trip. Some connect this trail with Cultus Creek trail and the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) to make a popular loop hike.

From the trailhead, climb steeply through heavy timber, ascending 1000 feet in 2 miles. The grade eases as the trail skirts the base of Bird Mountain, and at 5,100 feet elevation, the trail passes through several small meadows with spectacular wildflower displays.

The trail passes the Deep Lake Trail, a short side trail that descends to Deep Lake then continues to a saddle viewpoint below Lemei Rock. Your trail for Indian Heaven continues past the shore of Cultus Lake, then drops down to end on the PCT near Deer Lake.
