Hiking Honey Dew Creek

The Seattle & Walla Walla was Seattle's first railroad.  Despite it's ambitious name it never made it past the coal fields in Newcastle.  In 1877 a trestle was built from where Honey Dew Creek terminates at May Creek, crossing it to the other side.  Though the trestle no longer exists the old grade makes a gentle walk along Honey Dew Creek.

Pass the gate and follow the paved service road down with views out to the May Creek valley.  Where it turns left to cross Honey Dew Creek go straight instead following the trail south along the creek.  The trees are covered with moss, the walls of the canyon are covered in ferns, and the creek babbles over fallen trees and among rocks.  A few old growth stumps are here and there and along the way you cross the creek on a few well made bridges.  The trail terminates near NE 19th St.
