Hansville Greenway

Hansville Greenway is a combination of Kitsap County property and trail easements making a rough square around the community of Hansville. The trails are built and maintained by volunteers from the Hansville Greenway Association with help from the parks department.

The heart of the trail system is accessed via Buck Lake Park, where there is ample parking, and a restroom open during the spring and summer. From the parking lot, the trail system begins across the baseball field (which can be very soggy when wet). Check out the community native plant garden on your way to the trails. Head down the trail to the first 'T' intersection, where you can walk 0.1 mile to the right for an overlook of Buck Lake before doubling back and taking the lefthand trail to the meadow and kiosk, dedicated to David Cunningham.

The kiosk is the central hub for the trails here, stocked with paper maps for hikers. These are essential to a successful outing. While the intersections here are all well signed, having a paper map to plan your outing is a huge help.

Head to Quiet Place, a spot on Upper Hawk's Pond dedicated to the memory of Maureen Vis. The platform here offers a great spot overlooking a wetland, where visitors can sit and rest off the main trail. If you visit during dusk, listen for the whoo-whooo of owls.

Past Quiet Place is Lower Hawk's Pond, where stairs lead to an elevated wooden overlook, allowing viewers another lovely spot to observe wildlife, or simply enjoy another quiet retreat.

There are miles of hiking opportunities in this network, but the hike from Buck Lake to Lower Hawk's Pond Overlook with the detour to Quiet Place is about 2.5 miles.

WTA Pro Tip: The Hansville Greenway encompasses not only the trails around Buck Lake and Upper and Lower Hawk's Pond, but community trails that link the park to Point No Point Park (4.2 miles from Quiet Place), Norwegian Point Park, even a 1.2 mile detour to Hood Canal on the Sid Knutson Trail. Take a whole day and make it a long loop.
