This trail is listed in Audubon's Olympic Loop of The Great Washington State Birding Trail. The trail drops fairly steeply from the trailhead to begin a 0.7 mile loop around the lake. There are several benches along the way for resting while bird watching.
In addition to birds, look for plenty of wildflowers in spring, like Trillium, coltsfoot, yellow violets, and Indian plum. A bench partway along the trail offers a nice sitting spot for visitors. In fall, this is a beautiful area with moss covered maples and rocks and many lichens, among them the bright red British Soldier lichens.
