Hiking Grass Camp

Grass Camp Trail provides good loop opportunities in the wildflower-rich area southeast of Blewett Pass. Use a variety of nearby trails to create loops or traverses through this area.

To access Grass Camp Trail, start on the Naneum Rim Trail where it crosses Forest Road 9712. One mile later, Naneum Rim Trail intersects Naneum Creek Trail. Turn left, and shortly after there is an intersection with Grass Camp Trail. To complete a loop, follow this trail clockwise until it reconnects with Naneum Creek Trail, then continue back to Naneum Rim Trail.

This route circles around a controlled burn from the 1970s. Now part of a study area, focus points are forest recovery and wildlife habitat. Past the burn, the trail crosses a meadow to cliffs overlooking Howard Creek.

This is an extremely scenic hike through high country along basalt cliffs and lodgepole pine forests. Massive high ciffs along West Fork Naneum Creek afford views of Naneum Meadow. As the trail dips into the meadow, hikers cross a tributary and climbs steeply to the northeast, regaining lost elevation.
