Hiking Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area

The Gordy Jolma Family Nature Area is 118-acre open green space — previously a golf course — that opened to the public in fall 2022. Combined with the nearby Salmon-Morgan Creeks Nature Area, this area in Clark County is a great place to spend time surrounded by nature without needing to drive far. If you're looking to visit both nature areas, there is a connector trail that leads to the Salmon-Morgan Creeks as well.

If you decide to take on the entire 2.6-mile loop around the old 18-hole golf course, you'll walk through tall trees — Western Red Cedars, mature Giant Sequoias, Douglas Firs and even a Tamarack larch or red oak once in a while — on mild former gravel or asphalt cart paths. You'll start at the old clubhouse, follow the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad tracks and then continue on to the old fairways. The trail takes you across 8 bridges across the Salmon Creek and tributaries, so this is a great spot for birdwatching as well.
