Hiking Gold Mountain

Gold Mountain is a beautiful hike from the Gold Creek Trailhead up a logging road and across country. With spectacular views of the Hood Canal and the Olympics to the west, as well as Mount Rainier, the Cascades, and Bremerton to the east, this is a definitely a day hike you must experience.

You begin your trek at the Gold Creek Trailhead, on the south trail, just behind the outhouse. Stick to the trails on the right and head up the mountain. Upon approaching a Y intersection, after about 0.2 miles, head south-southeast, taking the one on the right. If you reach the Gold Creek Trail, you missed the turn.

Hike straight up through a forested area for about a quarter of a mile.
After about 0.75 miles, reach a logging road and take a right. A left will take you on the Tin Mine Trail -- a fun adventure, but not the one you're on.

Stay on the logging road towards the southwestern edge of the mountain. After another half mile, you'll reach another 'Y' intersection, with one road heading north up the mountain. Take that road. You'll reach a clearing on the western outlook of the mountain and be able to see the Olympics, Hood Canal, Belfair, and Mission, Panther, and Tiger Lakes.

To reach the western peak of the mountain you could take a right, heading east at the Y intersection, or you could walk towards the south end of the antenna station, bushwacking east from the western outlook. From there, you will have a spectacular view of the Olympics, Mount Rainier, and Bremerton. On a clear day, you can see Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams.

You could head towards the eastern peak, just continue east on the forest road. Stay on the road, as the forest there is the City of Bremerton's closed watershed.

Enjoy the view at the top and hike back the way you came to get down. If you want to make it a longer journey, take the Tin Mine Trail to the Northeastern half of the mountain and check that out. From there you can take a trail north that leads to Gold Mountain Road 6 and head west. After 1.5 miles, you'll reach the Gold Creek Trail. Head left over the bridge to get to the trailhead, or go right and up to go to Green Mountain Vista.
