Open to the public just one day a year, this preserve is located among the Mima Mounds near Littlerock. It provides a peek into the Puget Prairie ecosystem that greeted settlers who came here in the 1800’s. Thurston County Parks Department owns this small parcel of land, a tiny remaining fraction of the prairies of old.
Expect to visit during Prairie Appreciation Day, which happens in early May at the peak of the wildflowers.
There are trails that go around and through the preserve. If you are lucky enough to visit, take time to explore the area and appreciate the newly reintroduced golden paintbrush, a very rare wildflower that's enjoying a recent comeback.
