Gibbs Lake sits tucked away in the Northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula. This county park comes complete with its namesake lake and an intersecting system of trails that are open to hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.
For hikers, one appealing route is the loop around the lake. Starting from the parking area, head clockwise on the Walt Hoffman Trail (closed to horses), catching occasional glimpses of the lake from its western shore.
At the north end of the lake, the trail first crosses a creek, then Gibbs Lake Road to pick up the loop on Jack’s Track Trail. On Jack’s Track, traverse the slopes above the lake’s eastern shore as you head south back to the parking area. Along the way you’ll pass several intersections with trails that head east into a sizable trail system. A Map of the trails at Gibbs Lake is helpful in navigating all the twists and turns.
