Hiking Franklin Falls - Winter

This popular summer trail off I-90 changes quite a bit during the winter months. The road accessing the summer trailhead is closed to vehicles, adding several miles to the route, and there is considerable avalanche danger at the falls.

If you choose to visit the falls during the snowy months be prepared by knowing the latest avalanche conditions, and always use caution if you choose to enter the waterfall basin, which sits at the bottom of a steep avalanche chute.

To access the falls during the winter you will need to start from the Asahel Curtis Sno-Park just off exit 47 (Sno-Park Pass required) and walk about 2.75 miles in along the road to reach the Franklin Falls Trailhead, and then continue on the trail from there.
