Forest lake is a small lake in the Sunrise area of Mount Rainier. The Lake is a stop along the Huckleberry Creek Trail, with one designated campsite. Since it’s within the National Park boundary a permit is required to camp here.
From the main parking area at Sunrise, start out on the Sourdough Ridge Trail for about 0.6 mile. Enjoy the stunning views of Mount Rainier along this stretch because shortly you’ll drop down and the scenery will change.
At the first fork in the trail, following the sign to Forest Lake, head right down the Huckleberry Creek Trail and drop into a mountain basin. After 1.6 more miles of travel you will arrive at Forest Lake.
The hike in is mostly downhill, so enjoy your time at the lake before the climb back to your car.
