Hiking Emerald Lake via Deadman Trailhead

Approach a calm, quiet lake on a rugged canyon trail, where wildflowers bloom in spring, and you can rest lakeside in the heat of the summer.

From the trailhead, hop onto the Hoodoo Canyon trail, which descends and crosses the south fork of Deadman Creek. The trail then climbs, delivering hikers to the ridge above the creek.

Views along this route are of the Kettle Range and the spectacular Hoodoo Canyon. Once you've reached the ridge, the trail descends again, forking where the Emerald Lake spur trail takes off down to the lake. Note that the trail from the canyon ledge to Emerald Lake is steep and is recommended for experienced hikers.

If you want to continue your canyon tour, it is possible to continue south on the Hoodoo Canyon trail a ways. A trail washout that has been present for years has finally been repaired and is traversable the whole way.
