Hiking East Rim Waterworks Canyon

A short, hike alongside a creek on the east side of Washington, just outside of Yakima. Lush brush, including balsamroot, yarrow, and lupine can be found along the way, as you enjoy the dramatic canyon walls.

The canyon trail is a very gradual climb that follows the river up the canyon. Meander along the trail, taking in the sounds of the creek, the sights of curious rock formations, and maybe even some elusive animals, if you're quiet. At about two miles the trail ends.

Wildflowers and megafauna abound on this hike, so bring your binoculars and your camera. Look for bald eagles, elk, and a wide variety of other birds and mammals. Also not to be forgotten is your h2o! There is no water on this hike, so take plenty, especially in the summer months.

Hikers take note! Be sure to stay on the canyon trail, as there is a ridge trail that takes off from the same area that makes for a steep, dangerous climb out of the canyon. Look for the canyon trail about 20 feet past the elk gate on the right once you arrive at the trailhead.
