Hiking East Lake Sammamish Trail

This trail winds its way along the shore of Lake Sammamish, offering views of the water along the way. The route is paved for most of the way and is virtually flat due to the corridor’s history as a railway. Popular with cyclists, runners, dog-walkers and hikers, this trail offers one continuous route from Redmond to Issaquah.

Through a variety of partnerships and many years of community support, the trail has been constructed in pieces—the first segment opened to the public in 2006 and the final 3.6-mile section is scheduled to be paved in 2020.

This is one of the many trails in the King County Parks regional trail network which means there are many options to extend your journey. At its north end the trail links up with the Marymoor Connector Trail, which bisects Marymoor Park, and continues on to the Sammamish River Trail. At its southern terminus, the East Lake Sammamish Trail ends in the city of Issaquah but connects to the Rainier Trail and the Issaquah to Preston Trail.
