Dirty Harry's Peak was so named by Harvey Manning in recognition of Harry Gault, who operated a logging show on this mountain years ago. The trees have grown back, and Harry is long gone, but his truck remains in what is known as Dirty Harry's Museum. Hiking Dirty Harry's Museum

Dirty Harry's Peak was so named by Harvey Manning in recognition of Harry Gault, who operated a logging show on this mountain years ago. The trees have grown back, and Harry is long gone, but his truck remains in what is known as Dirty Harry's Museum. Abandoned 2000 feet above the highway, this relic of a time gone by is a destination for hikers though it is not on offically-constructed trail.

Follow the road-to-trail conversion of the Dirty Harry's Peak trail to Dirty Harry's Balcony. After the Balcony turnoff, continue following the trail. Admire the numerous switchbacks and rock work until you hit a long contouring section of trail as it climbs away, steeper now than before the balcony.

A second balcony awaits at the end of this contouring section, before the trail switchbacks once again back up the hillside. Once the trail turns uphill, look off to the left for another outcropping with marvelous views. Continuing up, you'll be paralleling Museum Creek for less than a half-mile, before the trail jogs left. Views open up near Museum Creek so named because of the nearby museum.

You may need to do some route-finding and navigation to locate it. When you do, please take only pictures and leave only footprints; many a hiker (including you!) has enjoyed the process of discovering the truck, so please leave the adventure available for others who will come after you.
