Hiking Deadfall

Many hikers enjoy reaching the summit of Mount Zion, but find the hike too short for their taste. Deadfall offers a longer and steeper but pass free route to the same summit.

There are fewer of the huge rhododendron bushes along the way when approaching from this side, but you'll enjoy a much bigger workout. The ominously named Deadfall Trail rises at an average grade of 23% (read -- quite steep). Climbing 560 feet in 1.6 miles, it then meets the Snow Creek Trail.

Continuing uphill from this junction, hikers climb a further 1680 feet, achieving a total of 2240 feet in 1.8 miles to the top of Mount Zion.
