Hiking Crooked Tree Trail

The Crooked Tree Trail starts on the northern edge of Roslyn — it doesn't take long for the houses to disappear and for the hike to feel more remote. The trail is wide and well-maintained, but your knees might thank you for having poles if you choose to descend on this route, especially if the trail is snowy or muddy.

As you hike, you'll walk between incredibly tall evergreens and may spot pops of wildflower color when the season is right. And every so often, the trees open up to give you views of Roslyn Urban Forest and the surrounding area.

At the top of your climb, when you reach the top of the ridge, the trees disperse and you'll get even better views of the surrounding area. And you'll finally get some views of the northern side of the Teanaway area, which the ridge had been blocking up until this point. It's a great place for a break before heading back down or checking out some of the other trails that branch off from this point.

WTA Pro Tip: It's a good idea to bring a map with you, as the area's large trail network could easily lead you along a different trail.

MAKE IT A LOOP

This trail pairs well with the Ewok Trail to make a loop. The two trails converge at the top of the ridge, and make for a 5.5-mile loop from Roslyn to the ridge. Start with Ewok for a milder climb and steeper descent, or start with Crooked Tree for the opposite.

Getting There

This trail starts on the northern edge of Roslyn. There is no parking area at the trailhead, but there is plenty of parking at Pioneer Park nearby. Parking for the day is $5, and is less than a half-mile walk from the trailhead through Roslyn.

DRIVING TO THE PARKING AREA

To get to Pioneer Park, take exit 80 off I-5. Head north on Bullfrog Road for about 2.8 miles. At this roundabout (the second you'll encounter on Bullfrog Road), take the second exit onto WA-903 N. Continue for about a mile, then turn left onto W Washington Drive. The park will be in front of you a couple of blocks down the road. There are flush toilets at the park.

GETTING TO THE TRAILHEAD

To get to the trailhead from Pioneer Park, walk north along N 3rd Street for about 0.2 miles until you reach WA-903 (the large main road). Turn right and continue to the end of the road. The trail starts with a slight veer to the left, heading into the trees. There are no facilities at the trailhead.
