Hiking Courtney Peak

A scramble up Courtney Peak in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. While not as tall as some of the surrounding peaks, it is widely regarded as having the best view in the wilderness.

Courtney Peak can be climbed in a day but packing in is a nice way to make this a less stressful climb, allowing climbers to see the area when the light is good.

Upon attaining the summit, look around you to Star Peak, Oval Peak to the northeast and Oval Lakes to the west. Be sure to soak in the glaciers of the North Cascades far in the distance, and careful heading down!

Getting There

From Twisp: Head west on the Twisp River Road for about 10 miles. Turn left onto West Buttermilk Creek Road. At the fork in the road, veer right onto East Buttermilk Creek Road and travel 3 miles before taking a right onto Road 500. Follow this road almost 3 miles to the trailhead.
