This mostly level trail passes through sagebrush flats and follows the John Day River with basalt cliffs lining the canyon and scenic views of the rolling hills. Apparently the largest herd of bighorn sheep in Oregon live in the park. Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, coyotes, and pronghorn are other animals living here.
