Hiking Copper Ridge

The Copper Ridge Trail forms part of the popular and iconic Copper Ridge Loop. The trail climbs to a ridge with stunning views before dropping down to the Chilliwack River Valley. To connect with this trail you must first start out on the Hannegan Pass Trail for 5.1 miles, going up and over Hannegan Pass before arriving at the boundary for North Cascades National Park and the official start of the Copper Ridge Trail.

From here start climbing 1,800 feet in just under 5 miles to Copper Mountain Lookout. You’ll pass Egg Lake along the way, one of 3 camps along the ridge (the other two are at Copper Lake and Silesia Lake). You must obtain a backcountry camping permit from the National Park ranger station to stay overnight in this area.

From here the trail continues along the ridge, heading downhill slowly at first then steeply through a series of switchbacks, fording the braiding tributaries of the Chilliwack River before bottoming out at the official end of this trail in the valley. This is where backpackers doing the entire loop will connect to the Chilliwack River Trail
