Copper MountainClimb to the summit of a peak near Mount Rainier. Climbing experience and equipment required. https://staging.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/copper-mountain-2https://staging.wta.org/@@site-logo/wta-logo.png
From the relatively flat Kautz Creek Trail, head into Indian Henry's Hunting Ground. At the junction with the Wonderland Trail, turn south (onto the Wonderland) and hike for about a quarter or a mile and then head cross country to the northeast. Hike through open forest and huckleberry bushes as you make your way to the saddle between Iron and Copper Mountains.
Descend to the saddle and cross a steep grassy slope, cutting back to the right into trees. Look for a steep path that leads up to a flat area below the summit of Copper Mountain.
WTA Pro Tip: Save a copy of our directions before you leave! App-based driving directions aren't always accurate and data connections may be unreliable as you drive to the trailhead.
Getting There
From Tacoma, drive east on State Route 7 to Elbe, then veer left onto SR 706 to enter the park at the Nisqually Entrance near Ashford. Continue east toward Longmire. Park at the Kautz Creek parking area on the south side the road, just after crossing a bridge and culvert.
