Hiking Colville Mountain Loop Trail

This City-owned parcel on the outskirts of Colville was recently developed for non-motorized recreation.  Hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers can all appreciate the ups and downs of the main loop trail, which is a little over 3 miles in total length.  Add a little extra elevation and challenge by taking the spur trail to the big cross overlooking Colville.

From the trailhead on May Road, continue up an old roadbed portion to the trail kiosk and the start of the loop route.  Look inside the trail kiosk box for copies of the trail map, or plan ahead and download the map from home.

There are several good viewpoints along the loop trail.  The trail looks directly down at Highway 395 and Main Street in Colville.  As the trail follows the contours of the mountain the views sometimes extend to the mountains both east and west of town.  At the uppermost portion of the trail, there is a covered shelter inviting visitors to sit and take in the view.

In the spring, the hillsides are covered in wildflowers.  The arrowleaf balsamroot blooms in May are especially nice.  In the fall, watch for ripe chokecherries and perhaps apples on some old orchard trees.  The trail system is also home to a large deer and turkey population.
