Hiking CCC Road: Blowout Creek Trailhead

The 1930s saw Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) teams building trail in the woods all over America. The Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road benefited from these efforts, which constructed the CCC Road, a 13.5 mile long route that parallels (roughly) the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road. The Lower Section can be tricky to navigate, as it borders private property, and signage here can send mixed messages. The trail itself is on DNR land, but be sure to bring an up-to-date map to verify your location as you hike.

However, the Blowout Creek Trailhead offers a more secluded adventure, despite its route along an old road. Climb a moderate grade alongside Blowout Creek for almost a mile before arriving at the CCC Road Trail. This accounts for nearly half the elevation you'll gain on this trail.

At the junction for the CCC Road Trail, turn left and hike west along a wide track, this is the CCC Plateau. As you climb, be sure to look south at some gorgeous panoramas of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River valley.

Just short of three and a half miles from the trailhead, listen for a dull roar. This is the rushing water of Brawling Creek as it plummets down a rocky edifice in a series of waterfalls. Arrive at the falls and snap some photos or have a snack. After resting in the shade, turn around and make your way back, enjoying the views of the river valley from a new angle on your return trip.

Getting There

From Seattle, head east on I-90 to exit 34, signed for Edgewick Road. Turn left onto 468th Street and follow it to the junction with the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road. Make a right and continue up the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road 7.4 miles to a gated road on the left. Park here, well off the main road, without blocking the gated road. Start your hike by rounding the gate and starting up that side road.
