Hiking Billy Goat

The Billy Goat trail is a popular access trail that allows hikers to trek deep within the Pasayten Wilderness. Enjoy views of many peaks as you walk through the forest in the Billy Goat drainage. Wildflowers are abundant, so be sure to enjoy the views on the ground just as much as the views up above.

Begin the trip from the Billy Goat Trailhead. If you are starting from the horse trailhead (an extra mile), continue straight and to the right when you reach the junction. If you start from the hiker trailhead, you will reach the junction with the Hidden Lakes trail on the left. To stay on the trail to Billy Goat Pass, go past this junction and quickly come upon the next and turn left. If you go straight, you will simply make a loop to the horse trailhead.

Once you have found the main trail, climb steeply for 2.7 miles and 2200 feet of elevation gain up to Billy Goat Pass. Behind you at the junction, you will see Billy Goat Mountain. If you follow the trail to the right, you will see and reach Burch Mountain, which is a popular destination.

Continue left and descend the pass through a series of switchbacks. When you reach the bottom, cross Drake Creek on a bridge and intersect with the Larch Creek trail, the ultimate destination of this trail. In the summer, wildflower blooms are spectacular and include lilies, lupine, columbine, clematis, and many more.
