Bear Lake Snowshoe is a road walk along the Mountain Loop Highway ending with a short trail to the lake.
Starting from the Mountain Loop Highway, walk up Forest Road 4020 for about 2.6 miles to a well-signed fork in the road. Turn right onto Forest Road 4021 for another 3 miles to the Bear Lake Trailhead. It is another 0.3 mile down this trail to the lake, although with enough snow the trail may be completely obscured.
Depending on the snow conditions you may be able to drive farther along this route before parking. If you choose to continue down the Bear Lake Trail, be prepared to navigate in areas where the trail is obscured. For a shorter option, you can always walk along this route to a turnaround point of your choosing, rather than making the lake your destination.
