Hiking Tacoma Peak Trail

Begin from the Batey Bould ORV Area and climb up into the Colville National Forest. This trail is still open to motorcyclists and snowmobiles, but hikers can enjoy solitude on less busy days such as during the week. Mostly in the trees, this trail climbs Tacoma Peak through cedar, larch, fir, and hemlock trees. From the top, enjoy views of the Pend Oreille River Valley.

Begin your trip crossing over a series of bridges and puncheons. Start to climb steeply as you make your way up Tacoma Peak. Look for animal tracks - you may see mice, birds, and maybe even a few moose. In the winter, snowshoes are necessary for hikers. The trail crosses some avalanche terrain, so check conditions before you leave and come prepared.

At the top, pause to admire the view. Below you to the east is the Pend Oreille River. There are other peaks around, such as Dirty Shirt and Fourth of July Mountain to the west. Meadows sit in the river valley. After you've soaked it all in, make your way back down to the parking lot to finish the day.
