Victory! Thank Congress for Passing a Historic Win for Public Lands

Email your members of Congress to thank them all for supporting the public lands package that saves LWCF and protects Washington state lands.

The entire Washington delegation voted in favor of S.47.

The president has just signed into law the sweeping public lands package known as Natural Resources Management Act (S. 47). It overwhelmingly passed both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate last month.

Here in Washington state, we are extremely thankful that the state's entire bipartisan delegation 10 House members and 2 Senators all voted in favor of the bill. We especially want to thank Washington's own Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) for championing this work and for her leadership on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

This is why we're asking to you take just two minutes to email your Congress members. Tell them just how much their support of public lands and trails here in Washington and across the country means to you.

WHAT’S IN THE PACKAGE?

 The public lands package:

  • Permanently reauthorizes the Land & Water Conversation Fund. This critical nationwide conservation program has been in danger of expiring for years.
  • Establishes the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area. This designation would protect 1.5 million acres of public and private land from Seattle to Central Washington.
  • Protects the Methow Headwaters. This measure would safeguard one our state’s premier recreation areas from industrial-scale mining claims.
  • Passes the Every Kid Outdoors Act

The package will also create 1.3 million acres of new wilderness areas, 700,000 acres of new recreation and conservation areas and 620 miles of wild and scenic river across the country.

As always when you advocate, personalizing your comments with something special about your connection to the outdoors makes it stand out.
